This past Sunday I preached from Philippians 1:1-11 at our sister church, Sojourn Montrose. It was the first sermon in our new series, Life in a New City. As I prepared I was struck by the fact that Paul was celebrating the work of God in them. But, what he was celebrating seems so ordinary. He was celebrating that they had fellowship with one another and were "partakers of grace" with him. Behind both those words is the same Greek word, koinonia. It points to something more than friendly interaction. It's also translated "participation", "contribution", and "sharing". Koinonia is intimacy of a shared life. And in their case, it's a miracle.
What's so miraculous about the ordinary? You can listen to my sermon here and hear what Paul has to say.
